I Finished a Book...Not for Business, FOR ME.

Front Jacket Cover of Eat, Pray, Love-found at Amazon.com

Hi Friends,

I finally picked up the book "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert that my step-daughter, "S" lent to me last year. It was, like many things, languishing and waiting for me to notice it again. I'm a pretty quick reader when I get into a great book so it took me less than a week to finish it as of this morning.

I joked with "S" when I returned it to her this morning that there might be some dried tear stains amongst the pages because lord knows I sniffled and bawled through many of them; knowing in my own life many of those struggles of self and love lost and the sheer emotion in the joy of allowing yourself to find "you" again and rediscovering who you really are.

One thing you should know about me is I am a crier. I cry when I'm happy, elated, sad, even angry (but I do cuss and stomp too). But, mainly...I cry. And I'm OK with that. It's part of my charm.

I was just really shocked at first just how many pages were tear stained with every emotion. But, reflecting on my little sob festival, I know they were because of just how much I was relating since "Liz" and I were sharing a journey together. She just traveled in actual distance and with herself more than I have (to date, anyway).

I am really looking forward to seeing the movie version coming next month starring Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem {sigh, swoon}.

Anyway, it just felt good to start, truly enjoy and finish a book for sheer pleasure, for myself and then be able to return it and share the joy of the book with "S". She shared it with me out of LOVE and I am so glad I finally opened myself up to accept that gift she gave me.

Seems like I am finally picking up on a lot of things lately that people offered me last year. Guess I wasn't really open to things last year. Just felt I was trudging along, doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing for everyone else and didn't have time for things like reading many books for myself.

So I am setting another goal for Your Not So Skinny Wedding Concierge. I am going to read a book with a plot line, for pleasure, every month. A biography, a history, a good medical or psycho-thriller, a self-improvement book (where the happy self-fulfilled life awaits on the last page) or a really good mindless, "fluff", beach book. Who knows, maybe even the bible?!!

I'm compiling a list of the books that are still on my night table waiting for me and will post those shortly but I would love some great suggestions from you my friends to add to my reading list. The only caveat I have is that they are NOT wedding or business related (you can leave those tips on my other blog if you wish).

Otherwise, I will "open myself" to what comes forth, regardless if I feel it might "not be for me" at first look.

I can't wait to read "what to read" in your comments and thanks for your help!

Today I AM Accomplished. What are YOU Today?

Updated on 7/30/10-As promised, I have created a reading list starting with the ones loitering on the night table (see the Amazon Widget, right side bar).Well actually, I just started "Best Friends Forever" by Jennifer Weiner this morning. She wrote the book "In Her Shoes" which was made into a movie a few years ago. I have read ALL her books.

All the books you recommend in your comments will be put in my Amazon Reading List widget on the blog.
